A single hard collision with a dock, a buoy, or another board can lead to catastrophic cracking or delamination. The primary concern with any hybrid material is the potential loss of stiffness (the "snap"). We address this through a targeted layup strategy. We use pure, high-modulus carbon in the longitudinal stringers to guarantee maximum stiffness under stroke-loading, and utilize our thermoplastic-hybrid weave in the rail and deck-impact zones.
