The Air-Water Interface: Why Your Rail Should Mimic a Fighter Jet Wing

The Air-Water Interface: Why Your Rail Should Mimic a Fighter Jet Wing

At high speeds, the part of your board above the water is just as important as the part below it. For 2026, RockerWave is introducing NACA-Standard Rails, utilizing aerodynamic profiles borrowed directly from supersonic aviation to minimize "Wind-Drag Stalling."

1. Reducing Cross-Wind Induced Drag

Traditional round rails catch cross-winds like a sail, creating lateral instability. Our new Aero-Taper™ rails utilize a specific NACA 0012 airfoil geometry. This allows wind to wrap around the board with zero turbulence, keeping you on your line even in 25-knot gusts.

2. The "Ground-Effect" Lift

By shaping the deck with a slight convex curvature, we create a high-pressure zone between the board and the water surface. This "Ground Effect" provides a microscopic lift, reducing the wetted surface area and allowing for a higher top-end speed in sprint conditions.
